Yesterdays DIY project came out beautifully. Sadly I can't say the same for the caramel cake I was trying to make from Septembers issue of Food & Wine magazine. I'm not sure if it was the fact the recipe was written for those with a mix master (which I don't have) or the fact that it was suppose to have three layers and I only made two. The recipe also got a major eye roll from me when I got down to the part that read, in separate bowl whip heavy cream until soft peeks form. Damn electric mixer...
Then there was the icing part no candy thermometer, my pot wasn't deep enough to cook said caramel, and then again with the mix mater needing to be set for 15 minutes to beat the frosting until it was creamy. In the end, the icing was watery so it go trashed and thank goodness for Betty and her frosting. In the end it covered a cake that is so dense and heavy it could be used to sink a small ship! This my friends is why I stick to cookies and paper!
Spring Olive is the object of my desire today! A girl needs a place to drown her sorrows doesn't she? Olivia does amazing work on both paper and cloth! I just went to her website and saw these amazing little patterned goodie bag! I heart them!
